Heat Protection

Hands are the most exposed part of the body in many work activities. Choosing the right personal protective equipment is therefore vital to the safety of the user; there are different categories of hand protection gloves depending on the use. Heat protection gloves are effective against the risk of burns, for example.

What is the standard for heat protection gloves?

A pair of gloves that protects against heat must comply with the European standard EN 407. A scale of 1 to 4 rates the level of resistance of the protective gloves against various thermal risks:

• Burning behaviour
• Contact heat
• Convective heat
• Radiant heat
• Small splashes of molten metal
• Large quantities of molten metal

The fire and flame behavior and heat resistance of these protective gloves are tested in several configurations to ensure a good level of protection and safety for the workers.

The level of thermal insulation is identified by a pictogram on the work glove, making it easy to find your way around the protective equipment.

How to choose your heat protection gloves?

Choosing the right heat protection glove is essential in order to work with complete peace of mind, no matter your activity. It is first of all, the use of the glove that will determine the appropriate model, according to the types of risks to which the hands are exposed. The material used is adapted to a specific type of thermal risk:

• Leather (full grain or split leather) is efficient against heat, resists flames and spark projections during welding work for example.
• Textiles, coated or not, protect against contact heat when handling hot materials at more or less high temperatures.

It is also important to ensure that the European standards are respected and that the gloves provide an appropriate level of protection against heat to ensure safe working conditions.

In addition, choosing the right size of safety glove, adapted to your physique, facilitates gripping, ensures excellent dexterity and perfect protection of the hand, from the palm to the fingertips.
